APU x SUPERCHARGER

FINTECH ACADEMY

SuperCharger signed a MOA with Asia Pacific University (APU) at the SCxSC FinTech Conference on 29th November 2018, making APU one of the first universities in Asia to add financial technology to the curriculum.

In addition to the specialised degree, SuperCharger will also launch a physical FinTech academy on campus at APU in Q2 2019 that will provide a space for talks, research, hackathons and other activities. 

The new qualification is a specialisation of the existing Bachelor's in Banking & Finance Degree offered by APU.

New subjects include: 

  • Data Mining & Predictive Analysis

  • Digital Currencies & Blockchain Technologies

  • Robo-advisory

  • Crowdfunding & Alternative Lending

  • FinTech Governance, Risk Management & Compliance

 

The first intake of students taking the Bachelor's in Banking & Finance with a specialism in Financial Technology is due in February 2019.

FINTECH SHARING SESSION BY HUY NGUYEN TRIEU, CFTE (CENTRE FOR FINANCE, TECHNOLOGY AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP)

  • Introduction to Financial Technology (FinTech) and it’s learning importance

  • Introduction to CFTE’s Around FinTech in 8 hours and AI in Finance

  • Sharing of specially customized designed courses for organisations and financial institutions.   

A collaborative FinTech Sharing Session was organised on the 24th May 2018 between SuperCharger Kuala Lumpur, the Centre of Finance, Technology and Entrepreneurship (CFTE) and the Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU) dedicated for universities heads, faculty leads and undergraduates from IT, business and finance course.

Serving as a crash course introduction to financial technology, the session was designed to educate the importance of FinTech and to provide further understanding of FinTech applications. The main topic of “Amazonification of Finance” was delivered by Huy Nguyen Trieu, the Co-founder of CFTE, emphasising on how digitisation enabled Amazon to become a technology titan and the lessons it can teach the financial sector.

It was also aimed to prepare the next generation with the knowledge and skills needed to satisfy the growing future demands of the FinTech industry.

About Huy Nguyen Trieu​

He is the Co-Founder of CFTE and CEO of the Disruptive Group (a business builder in FinTech). Well-versed in finance, entrepreneurship and technology, Huy is an Associate Fellow of Oxford’s Saïd Business School and a founding partner of the SuperCharger accelerator. He is the author of Disruptive Finance and has helped to design FinTech courses at Oxford and Imperial College. He actively advises and mentors FinTech entrepreneurs, and worked as an MD at Citi before founding his own VC-backed startup. Huy was also a part of the Consultative Working Group for financial at ESMA, the European regulator.

In realising SuperCharger Kuala Lumpur Academy’s purpose to escalate the foundation of financial technology (FinTech) education till it developed to an alliance of professional that can widely spread FinTech initiatives, we have strategically partnered with Financial Literacy for Youths Malaysia (FLY: Malaysia). By being the mentor advisory partner for them, this partnership aims to build up FinTech knowledge among younger generations, allow more exposure exchange and knowledge sharing for both parties.

On October 31st to November 4th, 2017, we organized a pilot FinTech training program for a selected group of 30 finance professionals, regulators and students.

The program combined knowledge-building workshops and a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with FinTech startups through project-based learning.

Participants were grouped and paired with startups who presented them with problem statements to work on, such as new product ideas, go-to-market strategies, localization, etc.
